- I bought this book as a gift to my daughter for her Wordy Girls reading group. This is a group to encourage and support reading and writing for Afro American woman and girls. What a delightful story! A young girl of color, being true to herself and having the confidence to do what needs to be done and ultimately doing what others can't. All girls should know that they shouldn't have to live with limits to their possibilities..
Also, beautifully illustrated! - This is a precious book. I introduced it during our folktale unit. The main character is a girl. It is a great opportunity to share a folktale with a darling dash of diversity. A really cute book with a nice message. It is now one of my students new favorite folktale characters.

- Love the storyline. Illustrations are top notch. Great great book to read. My two girls love this one.
- I love this book! It's wonderful to see an African American AND a girl depicted as a tall-tale hero! The text is fun and very descriptive, even poetic. The illustrations are beautiful and convey the humor in the story. It might be a bit too text-heavy for very young,wiggly kids, but they'll love the story.
