Splat the Cat On with the Show Annie Auerbach Rob Scotton Books Reviews

  • There is a lot to like about Splat the Cat books. They're cheap, and filled with pages of wonderful illustrations. I personally don't really like the stories, feeling they are mostly phoned in for each new release, but my kids can't get enough of them. This story is another winner as far as my children are concerned (5 year old daughter and 3 year old son). They particularly love the illustrations, and love seeing small details scattered across the pages. For instance, Spike, Splat's friend and star of the play Cinderpaws, has stage fright. My children love how he is seen in pages preceding his meltdown shaking behind the stage curtain. For my children it makes the world come alive, much like how Richard Scarry books did for me.

All this being said I still don't really like the ending, which tells children that bumbling and making a mockery of yourself for laughs is a way to be best appreciated. I am over thinking it of course, but wish that Splat could be successful through his hard work.
  • Splat and his class are putting on the school play. When "the prince" has stage fright, Splat gets to take his part. Oh-oh! The costume is kind of large and floppy. When the princess runs away from the ball at midnight, Splat tries to follow her. We all can guess what happens next. Not only does Splat trip on his costume, the whole set comes tumbling down! The audience just loves a comedy. Now Splat will have to go splat tomorrow night, too!

Sometimes our worst mistakes can turn into good fun. Younger children will enjoy this story and know that anyone can have a bad day now and then.
  • My grands, specifically my granddaughter, love the entire Splat the Cat series. They live far from me so I read via FaceTime. It keeps us close.
  • Love these books for their teaching quality, however, I have noticed, the author tries to over simplify, and it sometimes comes across in reading aloud as a fleeting thought...SQUIRREL!....sort of read. Still, my kids love them.
  • My 4 yr old grandson is addicted to Splat!! Great books, fun reading, very entertaining.
  • Twin grandsons love all the "Splat the Cat" books. Am purchasing more for other youngsters in the area. Seems you can't go wrong with "Splat". Arrived quickly and were well packaged. Definitely worth the price with the free shipping I snagged.
  • The illustrations are wonderful and my little girl loves to laugh at Splat! She wonders if he visits up hairball sometimes. But, seriously, this is a super cute, funny book and it has life lessons in it.
  • Splat again
