The Everlasting Rose The Belles series Book 2 Dhonielle Clayton Books Reviews

  • This book is the sequel to The Belles and is best read after the first book in order to understand everything that is going on.
Camille Beauregard is on the run from the evil Princess Sophia with her guard Remy and her sister Edel. Together they attempt to elude the guards and hatch a plan to find the missing Princess Charlotte and overthrow Sophia before she becomes the Queen. They enlist the help of the Iron Ladies, women who believe beauty treatments aren't necessary, as well as those who have gone underground to stir up a rebellion. Princess Sophia is truly evil and will stop at nothing to gain whatever she desires, no matter how many people she has to harm or kill. Can Camille and her sisters stop Sophia before it's too late?
I enjoyed the suspense and ingenuity of this book, and I believe it's overall message is relevant and needs to be heeded today. The lengths some people will go to in order to fit their and others' ideal of beauty can be harmful and go too far. Society as a whole pushes a certain acceptable way to look, which changes faster than the seasons. People are harming themselves and others in order to meet the societal ideals, and I believe this book and the one preceding it addresses that issue in a bone chilling way. I didn't agree with some of the views presented, but overall I think this book is a must read for teens and adults alike. This book is more dark and violent than the first one, but I definitely recommend it. I hope there will be a third book that will tie up some loose ends that remain unresolved.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley and also purchased a copy from . A positive review was not required, and all opinions expressed are entirely my own.
  • Well, Dhonielle, you have done it again. It took me a minute to figure out where you were going with book 2. Once that was done, I was ready for the ride. Camille is a one of a kind character that everyone loves. A lot of the questions from book 1 was answered in book 2. I can’t say anything about the story because I don’t want to give anything away because I want your heart to beat faster with each page that is turned. Dhonielle, I am glad that your health has improved, we live and learn. Looking forward to seeing the movie. Much love and peace to you.
  • I really enjoyed Book 1, The Belles. It felt like a big juicy read with great worldbuilding. This is an underwhelming sequel. There’s no recap in the beginning or subtle clues along the way so you’re on your own there. And there is not the same lush worldbuilding or interesting character development. It’s predictable. And overall kind of a boring journey book, nothing surprising at all. This feels like a story the author didn’t feel like writing, and I only finished 2/3 of it. Which is such a bummer because I was really looking forward to this one.
  • I could have done without all the extra descriptive commentary and the ending was let a down. For everything they went through I felt a big showdown was in order. It was just too easy to bring Sophia down.
  • Dhonielle does not disappoint in this much anticipated sequel. You will feel all the feels while rooting for your favorite Belle with every turn of the page!
  • Great book, full of anticipation, astounding imagery and descriptions and lovely characters. The only fault is predictability. I wish that within reading the 10th chapter, I wouldn’t have been able to figure out what would happen in the end (I even predicted *****’* betrayal and death)

    SPOILER ALERT

Charlotte is alive and Valerie, Arabella and Amber (traitor) dies. I saw this coming from a mile away. Other than that, 10/10!
  • This book was a wonderful ending! I want to know more about the Iron Ladies and the trails. This series was so imaginative and worth my reading time.
  • Absolutely amazing!!! This book sucks you into a world of wonder and beauty! I loved the journey itntook.me in. I never wanted it to end.
