The origin of X-23! Cloned from Wolverine's cells and raised to be the perfect killer, young Laura Kinney never knew a life free from the harsh masters at The Facility. But now she has broken loose at last, and must forge her own path in the world! Free of her chains and determined to live, Laura will write the next chapter of her story herself. But can X-23 escape her training and her instincts, or will the gallons of blood spilled in her violent past drag her down?

Ebook X23 The Complete Collection Vol 1 Craig Kyle Chris Yost Jay Faerber Marjorie Liu Billy Tan Mike Choi Francis Portela Felipe Andrade Books

"X-23 (Laura Kinney) only seems fully realized when paired with her creators Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost, leaving the rest of the collection lacking. That being said, their collaboration on "Innocence Lost" -illustrated by Billy Tan- and "Target X" -illustrated by Mike Choi- are must haves for X-Men fans looking for more complex and mature material from marvel.
The story, art and characters are all damn near perfect albeit changing their continuity by adding a character in "Target X". This, however, didn't distract or detract from my enjoyment of the story.

While I highly recommend this collection, I did subtract a star for the stories in the back half of the book. They appear lazy and downright bad compared to the origin stories. I would have much rather seen her story lines from NYX and New X-Men included.
I also found Marjorie Liu's (whom I usually enjoy) contribution somewhat offensive and derivative after everything Laura has gone through. The story seemed unnecessary in general and unnecessarily collected here as the second complete collection has the majority of Liu's run.

Pick this up for the amazing art and story found throughout the first 12 issues -the price is great for those alone!- but skip out on reading the last 4 unless you plan to finish Liu's run or you're a completist like me."

  • I would definitely recommend this collection. I've been a X-23 fan ever since her first appearance, and this collects 2 of the best stories shes featured in, plus a few more that are ok. The book its self is thick, good quality, great value for the price.
The only negative ill give it is the last two stories could be better and I wish they used Mike Choi's art for the cover. But the first two stories are easily worth the price alone and earns it 5 stars. Definatly going to get vol.2
  • As the name complete collection I dictates, this collects a large chunk of the initial appearances of x-23. However, be warned that there are text pages explaining events that occurred in other books not collected here.
The story itself is really good. Laura's origin is tragic, and the various writers do a really good job showing how the program twisted her into the weapon she was born to be. The art is abit more scattershot though, a lot of it is great, some of the random one shots included are rather rough looking.
I bought this after seeing Laura in Logan, and I did not regret it. If you are following her in the all new wolverines title or are curious about the character from the movie, I'd definitely recommend this title.

  • I wasn't very familiar wit h x-23 other than just some basic knowledge, so ordered this graphic novel to read before "Logan" comes out. Wow, was I surprised. The writing and art are fantastic, I would have to say this is one of the best, most entertaining novels in my collection.
  • Awesome compilation!!! I didn't know anything about X-23 and out of curiosity decided to by this! No regrets at all, loved all novels and the artwork on each one, even though its very different between one another, they're each very unique and astonishing!!! Fully recommended to current fans and those who would like to start following this story!
  • X-23 has is amazing. Fox should take note and have her replace hugh jackman. This is filled with more than enough material for three times the price they asked for. You won't be disappointed
  • ...but only this year did I find I *really* like her. Why? Because whether as X-23, Laura, or New Wolverine, she's all about overcoming victimhood.

This turned out to be one of the best $5 I've ever spent. I had no idea.
  • After watching Logan, I was curious about the X 23 character. This collection is the perfect way to get acquainted. It's a compilation of several different stories. Most of them are excellent but there are a few duds among them, but that's comics for you. 4/5 stars and highly recommended.
