- Great ways to get your feet wet with CCNA and CCNP. Be advised that there is a CCENT ICND1 100-101 version as well. But don' buy both, just get the 200-120. The later contains both the advance stuffs plus everything from 100-101 labs. So learn from my mistakes. This lab is really good because the authors teach you how to think like a network engineer as you follow each steps. Worth every pennies. Thank Wendell and Sean for this well thought out simulator. I'm hungry for more labs. So if the authors are reading this, please produce another one for CCNP or CCIE. I really like the way you two put this product together.
- I have had all the CCNA classes, CCNA study guides, I own CISCO equipment and use CISCO equipment at work. I will say this little program is much better once you have read and have had the classes to understand what they want as you work your way through. As you work your way through the labs, you are asked to enter real commands and the sim works just like the real equipment. You are asked questions in which you must type in an answer - which makes you think. If you have ever taken a CISCO or any Network certification test, they tend to ask questions very detailed. While I have taken the CCNA certification test, I did not pass on the first go, so I added this software and I now know some items in which was not covered in my classes. For the price, it is absolutely worth it, like everything, you have to dedicate some time to it. I spend about two hours in the lab sims plus another two hours reading. The CCENT- CCNA Route and Switch Certification is a must. If you have not taken the classes, I would recommend you start with Comptia N+ first to get some foundation information and certification.
- After using Packet Tracer in class, this simulator was quite different. I'm told that on the real test it's the results you get graded for, not (so much) how you got there. But I still find this simulator's ability to grade you useful it tells you not only if you used the 'correct' steps to get there, but also can tell you about which things you did that were unnecessary. For me, that can help clarify what I've done 'wrong.' [Much of the time I already realize that I was going the wrong direction, but not always.]
On the other hand, it's grading made me want to rerun the lab without grading it - negating the usefulness. Also, much of the time I want to play around with things just to learn and to get more comfortable. Fortunately, you choose when to let it grade you.
I don't know why certain commands are unavailable (or changed). For instance, starting at the beginning (Chap 8), I just automatically assumed I would do vty 0 15. It wouldn't let me. By using the Tab and ? I finally realized they'll only let you do vty 0 4. So some options you'd expect are not available.
Overall I really like it. - Thank you! This has been a great learning tool for me and thanks again for letting me install it on more than one pc! It has been an amazing tool to help understand the Cisco IOS without having to spend $1000's on a home network setup. I'm shocked by some low stars with your similar product. Some people just expect it to be given to them or their still stuck in the land of WinXP and not sure on how to restart a pc. This is an amazing tool if you want to learn the foundations of the IOS!
