- How many ways can you say "clean out every nook and cranny." I think the average Window's user has grown past this chitty-chatty message. This is like a bad movie sequel to "Degunking Windows" and "Debunking PC." There is no passion to the story. I don't fault the author because I have both previous books and they were good because the author had something to say. To me this reads like a rehashed publisher makeover, that slapped the author's name on it to give it some credibility. The book reads like a bad sophmore book report written over night; "Pictures are often a source of a lot of gunk." The word "gunk" gets old after the 2nd page. This is a publisher recycle. Get it at the library. Take it from a technology trainer, there are better titles out there. I tortured myself to give it 2 stars.

- This is a great book for someone who wants learn how to make your Windows 7 machine run faster and better than ever before. It showed me where all the bottlenecks can occur, where things that slow down your system are stored and, generally, how to optimize your machine so it runs faster and apps open faster. It's a great book, I recommend it.
- I am in the computer business and thought I could handle taming Windows (Windows 7 in this case) to behave the way I want. Well, I am humbled. Reading through Degunking Windows 7 by Joli Ballew showed me new ways to optimize and clean out my computer I hadn't considered. It's like spring cleaning! I buy computers often and they all come with loaded on cr*p I don't need. Joli's book shows how to get rid these unwanted programs and trialware, as well as fixing up ones you do want.
We've all heard of 12 step programs - and in here is the Degunking 12 Step Program. What better way to tame the beast then with a step by step approach? A particularly helpful chapter for me is about Internet Explorer. This browser from Microsoft gives me a major migraine. Other browsers just "work." Internet Explorer is like a crybaby. Thanks though that Joli goes over the ins and outs of IE with tips on using it.
All-in-all this is a must-have book for all that have purchased a Windows 7 computer - and I suppose that means you. Get this book, you'll be glad you did! - Degunking Windows 7 is a very informative Do-It-Yourself Computer book that will benefit beginners and advanced users alike. This is one of the few books that tell how a PC with Windows 7 works and how to keep it at its best. The 12-Step Program will show the reader how to organize the Hard Drive, Remove Unwanted Files, Icon, and Programs as well as securing the Computer and Network. Some chapters may be for advanced users though. Just the tittle gets your attention. The book could also have been called A 12-Step program for a healthier computer. The book is specific to Windows 7 but many activities can be applied to other version of Microsoft Windows.
"Degunking Windows 7"is an instructional D-I-Y manual with detailed steps to perform using clear simple language, even with humor here and there.
The first 2 chapters are mostly general information regarding the process. Each of the chapters 3 through 14 is dedicated to one of the step activity. Each chapter begins with a degunking checklist and ends with a summary.The Appendix - Buy and Degunk a new PC - Should be read by anyone getting a new PC
I belong to a computer group and I am recommending "Degunking Windows 7" as a must read. Follow the 12-step recommendation and you will be surprise how good this old beast is becoming a thoroughbred. You can't go wrong
